Now, I have decided to redirect the entire a.com website to t.in. Though I have manually created the products of a.com on t.in, I want to shift the entire a.com website to t.in: products, collections, blogs and pages.
Questions
Where to do domain transfers? At Shopify level or at the domain provider’s level?
Do all my a.com URLs be replaced by t.in URLs by default, after redirection? Can I change the redirections flow manually afterwards?
What happens to my customer data? Do I have to shift them manually from a.com to t.in?
What happens to the images and videos posted on a.com? Do I have to shift them manually from a.com to t.in?
What happens to the product reviews (especially reviews with images)? Will they reflect properly on t.in?
What happens to the discount codes created on a.com?
Any other thing that I should keep in mind during or after the domain transfer?
Please reply as I have to do the same before the end of June 2023.
Thank you reaching out for support with this. To ensure I fully understand what you are wanting to do, the website a.com and the website t.in are each separate online stores, with their own inventory/customers/data/etc. Is that correct?
In this case you would need to manually transfer the data over to the preferred store account in order to merge this information. Customer profiles, product reviews, product details, discount codes, etc, all need to be manually moved over to the primary store account.
In regards to the domain redirection, this can be done from within the Shopify admin, so long as the DNS information for the domains points to Shopify (Connect your third-party domain to Shopify). You would remove the domains from within their admins, if they are all hosted on Shopify, and add them as additional domains on the primary account. You would choose one as your primary domain and then you can setup whether the other domains redirect to a primary domain or not.
