Referral program for B2B

Topic summary

A Shopify Plus user in the petfood industry seeks to create a trackable offline referral system involving third-party physical stores.

The Setup:

  • Brand provides kits to breeders containing discount codes
  • Customers receive 10 codes for 10% off (redeemable up to 10 times)
  • Online redemption works with standard referral apps

The Challenge:

  • Tracking offline redemptions when customers use codes at independent retail stores
  • Enabling store owners to claim B2B discounts based on customer redemptions
  • Maintaining attribution back to specific breeders

Current Workaround:
Physical coupons unique to each breeder that store owners collect and submit to the company for B2B discount claims.

Status: One app developer (Ultimate Discounts) responded offering B2B pricing and bulk coupon features, expressing interest in building referral tracking capabilities. The thread remains unresolved, with a follow-up request for the original poster to share any solution found.

Hello everyone,

I’m working on a project using Shopify Plus in the Petfood industry.
I now have a rather specific need, and I’m confident that you might be able to help me find a solution.

The challenge is to make an offline referral system trackable by involving physical stores that are not owned by the brand.
To help you better understand the requirement, let me give you an example:

  1. The company (owner of the Shopify Plus store) provides kits to breeders containing gadgets and product samples, which the breeders gift to customers when they purchase a puppy.
  2. Inside these kits, the customer who bought the puppy finds 10 discount codes (or something else) that allow them to claim a 10% discount on their purchases up to 10 times.
  3. These codes (or referral links) can be redeemed online (this is not an issue, as any referral app can handle this).
    The problem arises offline:
How can I allow private customers to redeem their discount in a physical store (a store not owned by the brand) while tracking its usage, and at the same time enable the store owner to redeem it as a B2B discount?

The only solution I’ve found so far is to print physical coupons (unique for each breeder) and distribute them to customers, who will then give them to the store owner. The store owner could then send these coupons to the company to claim the B2B discount.

Does anyone have experience with this type of setup or have any suggestions?

Hi @MisterGrowth ,

Lesle, this side from Dollarlabs - creator of “Ultimate Discounts” app. We already help brands solve for the following,

  1. B2B / Custom pricing per customer and product/collection.
  2. Bulk coupon code generation.

However, your use case includes a referral system which ties in multiple stores. This looks like a solid use case that we can help solve for in our B2B suite of features.

Love to connect and discuss on how we can help solve for referrals in your B2B setup. Feel free to reach out on DM / reply to this thread.

Thank you

Since quite some time has passed since you raised this thread, I’m assuming you’ve already reached at a solution :slightly_smiling_face:

If so - can you please share the same and close this thread out so that others who stumble here might also find value.

Best,
