Thank you Victor for your help. I would look into this now.
Topic summary
This is a regional support hub for Shopify merchants operating in India, providing centralized resources and community assistance across four key business areas:
Available Support Threads:
- Payments (India)
- Shipping (India)
- Taxes (India)
- Marketing (India)
Key Topics Discussed:
Cross-selling & Product Recommendations: Merchants seeking apps to display related products can use third-party solutions like Cross Sell Related Products, Zoorix, Honeycomb Upsell, and Also Bought. These apps generally donât significantly impact site speed when used selectively.
Shipping Integration: Indian merchants can connect FedEx and UPS accounts for live carrier-calculated rates at checkout. Additional shipping service integrations are available through apps listed in the dedicated shipping support thread.
GST Registration Requirements: Businesses must register for GST in each state where they sell if annual turnover exceeds âč20 lakhs (âč10 lakhs for North East/hill states). Registration is also mandatory for inter-state supply, online marketplace sales, or businesses previously registered under earlier tax laws. Merchants are advised to consult local tax professionals for compliance confirmation.
Currency & Display Issues: Questions remain open regarding changing the rupee symbol display (Rs. to âč) and switching store currency from INR to USD for dropshipping businesses targeting international markets while maintaining India as the primary location.
Hi @Victor_5
Facing this issue with the tax amount calculation on the Checkout page. Weâve set the tax amount to 9% Country Tax (CGST) and 9% Regional Tax (SGST) for a particular state (Karnataka) in India. For all the other states, we have set it as 18% Regional tax (IGST)instead of Country Tax. So the total tax in all cases, should show up as 18%. This is the same for all products on our store.
However, the tax on the Checkout (Information) Page shows up as only 9%. Only when the state is selected by the consumer, the tax changes to 18%. Given the high value of our items and the fact that tax is not included in pricing, this is becoming a major conversion rate issue as consumers are unhappy about the sudden changes in the total amount, after they fill all the information. Screenshot below.
How can we fix this?
PS : Weâve set no tax overrides right now.
Hi @walnutf ,
Thank you for the detailed explanation of your issue and the screenshot you have provided. If I am understanding correctly, the tax rates are calculating correctly, but only when the customer selects the state they are based in at checkout?
If you do not have taxes included in your prices, the correct amount of tax will only be added when the customer has entered in enough information at checkout for our automated tax system to recognize where they are based and what the correct rate of tax to charge is. This is the case even if all orders should come with an 18% rate of tax on the order, as the system will calculate this figure in different ways. Based on your explanations, it will charge a 9% CGST rate and a 9% SGST tax rate for the state of Karnataka and a flat 18% IGST rate for all other states. This results in the same total tax percentage but it is calculated in different ways. More information about GST in India can be found here.
It is not possible to stop our tax system from behaving in this way, but it may be possible to communicate prior to checkout that all orders will come with an 18% tax rate. One way of doing this would be to change the wording on your cart page using our language editor to include this information; you could also add notes to your product pages and your FAQs page.
I hope this helps but please let me know if you have further questions.
Kind regards,

Hello @Victor_5
We run our store on a Venture theme. We have enabled % tag on products. Now, there are certain products which have no discount. So, product pages shows as 0% discount. Is there any way we can remove this?
Hi @Bombay_Mart ,
Thank you for getting in touch. If you have not edited the theme code to enable the sale tags, and have just done so via the theme editor, then I believe this is something our themes team may be able to assist with. As you are using a Shopify theme, you are entitled to receive some custom design time from our themes team, who can make small aesthetic changes to your website. I would recommend contacting our support team and detailing to them what youâd like to change, and they can forward your request to our themes team so they can review the requested changes and make them if it is indeed possible.
Kind regards,

You can try JarvisML
I am trying to buy a new domain name but when I click on âBuy domainâ it displays âserver errorâ. Please give solution.
Hi @Dishantb ,
Thank you for reaching out. What payment method do you use to pay for your subscription on Shopify? Have you paid for anything yet using this method on Shopify (e.g. for your subscription or any other charges)?
Can you also tell me what the domain suffix is (e.g. .com, .net, .in, etc) for the domain youâre trying to purchase?
HI Victor,
I have a friend whoâs dropshipping and her storeâs located in India. She is looking into selling internationally as well. Does she have to set up her taxes for shipping even though the products are all vis dropshipping? And what currency should she be setting on her store? Would it be okay to put the store currency in USD while the local/primary market is INDIA?
Thanks,
Hazel
Hi @Hazelc2 ,
If your friend is looking to sell to other regions and countries theyâll want to familiarize themselves with the local tax laws there and if they are required to register for tax in those places. In the United States, for example, overseas sellers still need to register for sales taxes in most states if and when they hit certain selling thresholds. More information on this can be found on the Shopify Blog.
They can choose what currency they want to sell in by default, although this may be determined by their payment processor. If they are based in India and receiving payouts to an Indian-based bank account, then they may be required to sell in INR rather than USD. Please note they can still list multiple currencies on the online store regardless of what currency is set to default.
