Registering account in another country

Topic summary

Main issue: A merchant in North Macedonia can only access 2Checkout as a Shopify payment gateway, but is repeatedly declined because they dropship. They ask if registering a new Shopify account under another country (using a virtual mailbox) would unlock more gateways; PayPal isn’t available locally, and Stripe isn’t supported for their country.

Guidance shared:

  • Do not register with false information; Shopify requires accurate details. Consider local options and compliance.
  • A virtual mailbox might provide a local address, but gateways have their own eligibility checks and may require additional documentation. Verify each gateway’s rules first.
  • Suggestions included Wise and Payoneer, but the OP notes Wise isn’t offered as a Shopify gateway and Payoneer attempts failed. Stripe is not listed for North Macedonia.

Actions and risks:

  • Contacting 2Checkout was advised; 2Checkout reportedly avoids dropshipping and warns misrepresenting the business can lead to bans and frozen funds.
  • One reply said using a virtual address and new account could be a last resort, but compliance risks remain.

Latest status: A link to Shopify’s “supported gateways” page was shared; the OP sees a mismatch (site lists many, store shows only one). Other users with the same issue asked for updates. No confirmed solution; discussion remains unresolved.

Hi Webwondersco,

Thank you so much for your reply.

Im a bit confused right now, not that you didnt explained clearly but Im pretty new to understand the things out here.

So if I get a virtual mailbox will I be eligible to open a new account store with that address there?

Also, I tried with Payoneer but didn’t succeed.I dont think there is a option with Wise because as I said only payment gateway is 2CO.
