unclear how or where the domain is registered now, UI is anything but helpfull and only refers to changing A or C records.
Searching through your support site just brings you back to the same few useless pages.

If you’ve purchased your domain through Shopify, then your domain will be registered with us - Shopify. I suspect that when you completed the purchase, you were meant to be navigated to a new page or window, but it couldn’t be found, resulting in that 404 error. Even with that occurring, your transaction likely would have completed. I’m confident that it did as you’ve mentioned A Name and C Records in your post. You wouldn’t be able to see that information unless the domain was registered with us and linked to your store, where you can see this information in your admin.
A good way to confirm that your domain is registered with us is to go to your ‘Settings > Domains’ section of your admin, and checking to see if your domain sits in a section titles ‘Shopify-managed Domains’ or something similar. If the domain is within that section, then it’s registered with us. If the domain is showing up under ‘Third-Party Managed Domains’ or something of a similar title, then the domain would be registered with the third party that would be named next to your domain. If you purchased your domain through Shopify, then there would be no third-party host named next to your domain, as it would be registered with us.
