I’ve been searching for information about this all day yesterday and I was wondering if any of you could help.
Here is a bit more detail and context for my question.
I started an e-commerce business this summer in France, nevertheless, I decided to move back to Mexico and start all over again, with new suppliers and setting my legal business here. So I planned on keeping the same business name and the same website. I am also both French and Mexican.
Can I keep the same store that was created when I was in France or do I need to shut down this store and open a new one with Shopify Mexico?
I only want to be sure that everything is done correctly and legally.
This is a good question to ask. Running a business has legal aspects and you always want to ensure you set up your business accordingly. While we can’t provide specific advice on local regulations, there are no platform repercussions to using the same store as long as you update your store address to your current physical address. Here’s how you can do that:
Enter your legal name and business address, and then click Save.
Please keep in mind that after you switch your address, the features in your admin will be adjusted according to what’s available in your location. This means you may need to configure some settings, such as your payments, taxes and locations. For example, if you were previously using Shopify Payments in France, you will need to change it to a payment gateway available in Mexico as Shopify Payments isn’t offered in Mexico at this time. You can find the list of supported payment gateways here.
In addition to updating your business address, it’s always a good idea to consult with a local law expert to ensure compliance with the requirements of running a business in your area. This will help prevent any unforeseen issues in the future.
If you have any further questions or need assistance, feel free to let me know. I’m here to help!
Hi Summer. When you say Shopify Payments isn’t offered in Mexico, can you clarify? My shop is based in the US, but we sell to people in Mexico in pesos. We just started taking orders this week. Shopify payments is activated on my site, this week I have had 2 credit card orders get declined and none process yet. I also have the 3rd party app paymentwall installed so I can accept OXXO Pay. I tried to turn off Shopify payments and turn on credit cards through paymentwall, but shopify payments won’t let me unselect all credit cards.
Shopify Payments can be used by customers anywhere around the world to pay for their order, however, it can only be activated in a store by merchants who are in specific countries. We’ll need to investigate the issue you seem to be experiencing with Shopify Payments and find out why it’s happening.
Did your customers advise why their credit cards were declined? Did they see an error message at the checkout? Feel free to share as many details as you can so I can look into the issue and find a fix. As for deactivating Shopify Payments, have you tried doing this by following the steps shared in this forum post?
