I used these wildcard codes to select every character in the string…
.[a-zA-Z0-9].
For me, that just caused the brand to disappear all together.
Topic summary
Instagram Shopping displays the product “Brand” taken from Shopify’s Vendor field, exposing suppliers even when “Show vendor” is unchecked in Shopify. Merchants fear competitor poaching and reporting breaks if Vendor is removed.
What’s confirmed/not working:
- Shopify’s “Show vendor” setting only affects the online store, not Instagram/Meta catalogs.
- Meta requires a Brand value in catalogs; support suggested MPN/GTIN when available (MPN = Manufacturer Part Number, GTIN = Global Trade Item Number).
Workarounds reported:
- Bulk edit in Shopify to replace Vendor with store name or “undisclosed,” then move real vendor info to Tags for internal use. Effective but painful for large catalogs and weak for reporting (Tags often not in reports).
- Meta Commerce Manager: Data sources > Settings > Product data rules to replace Brand values with a generic name. Limitation: roughly 20 rules; some tried wildcard matching and forced a resync, with mixed success. A screenshot was referenced.
- Escalate to Meta Pro Support: one user got Brand hidden after internal review; results are case-by-case and require persistence.
Status: No official Shopify fix. Issue remains ongoing; scalable, reliable hiding of Brand and clear Meta contact channels are unresolved.
