We have an existing website that we are wanting to migrate over to shopify in the near future. We have years of organic rankings and are the top search result in many common searches in our industry. We have been advised that we risk dropping in these rankings if our new URL does not match our old URL perfectly.
Is there any way, be it complicated or simple that we can remove /collections etc. from our URL?
Thank you in advance for any help that you can offer!

Hi @ChuckWilsonJD
we risk dropping in these rankings
You risk dropping in rankings during any modification of a websites content or it’s urls , or things like domain name changes; regardless of platform migration.
For the online-sales-channel in shopify the url structure is not changeable.
All previous urls can have redirects setup to land on the new urls structures.
Otherwise you need to either:
- host your own website and embed shopify buy buttons in it
- use the storefront api to build a custom frontend
