Removing Shipping Options for entire store

Topic summary

Issue: A B2B Shopify Plus store (orders via EDI; billing/shipping handled in ERP) must keep a $0 shipping method. At checkout, the order summary shows Shipping: Free, which confuses buyers. The merchant asks how to remove or change this labeling (considered unchecking “Physical product”).

Initial guidance: Customize checkout language to change the “Free Total Label” (Settings > Checkout > Manage Checkout Language > under Checkout Delivery Options). Note: this text applies to all free line items, so choose wording that works globally.

Problem persists: After changing the label, “Free” still appears in the order summary.

Key clarification: There are two “Free total label” entries. The correct one to edit is under Checkout Order Summary (not the one under Checkout Delivery Options). Staff provided screenshots to locate it.

Outcome: Merchant updated the correct field and confirmed the issue is resolved (the misleading “Free” label is replaced). No need to uncheck “Physical product.”

Status: Resolved. The solution is changing the Checkout Order Summary “Free total label” in Checkout Language settings.

Hello,

We have a separate store dedicated to our large distributors for them to quickly entering stock and dropship orders, and, all of these orders are imported through EDI into our ERP.

These accounts are on credit terms, so we do not have any payments set up on the store as final billing and AR are controlled in our ERP, and as well, any shipping for these orders is controlled within our ERP, not on the store.

From all appearances, a shipping option is required in the store, otherwise the message comes up that carts will not be processed. So, we have the shipping set up as $0.00 with a message that the shipping will be charged on their account.

When the B2B customer gets to the cart, they see the message about shipping being charged later on the left, but on the totals section on the right it comes with with shipping as “Free”.

Most of our customer know that shipping is not “free”, but when others in their organization are not familiar with this, they take it that we will ship for free and get upset when we charge them later.

I cannot find any option to control this on the check out page, and, I have read in other post the we can uncheck the “Physical Product” box, but will that eliminate the “Free” message on the check out page?

Any other options that to think about?

Thank you

Hello @RonBD ! Thank you for your patience. Customizing your theme should allow you to do what you’re looking for. In the screenshots I’ve attached below, our engineer was able to change the “free total label” field to “getting it free” at checkout. The only thing to note is that the content of this field applies to every free merchandise line, so you need the content to apply everywhere.

To modify this field, go to Settings > Checkout > Manage Checkout Language > then navigate to the “Free Total Label” field under Checkout Delivery Options. Enter in whatever text/value you want to display to customers.

Thank you very much @lizzieficken for the information. I made the changes to the settings, but I am still getting “free” in the check out. I have included screen shots of settings and checkout. Any clues why it did not work?

Thank you
Ron

Hey @RonBD ! I spoke with our Storefronts team and they said, " There are two different free total label. The merchant needs to edit the one at the bottom under checkout order summary and not the one at the top Checkout delivery options". Screenshot included below.

Apologies that I did not clarify this before.

Thank you for the further information, I did not realize that I had to keep scrolling down to keep getting more and more lines. Looks like I have what I needed. Thank you once again.
