Removing Stupid AI Recommendations

Topic summary

A nursery website manager is frustrated by persistent purple AI-generated pop-ups in Shopify’s admin interface that suggest incorrect product metadata, including wrong colors, scientific classifications, and planting recommendations.

Current Limitations:

  • No global setting exists to disable these AI recommendations
  • Individual suggestions can be dismissed, but they continue appearing
  • No confirmed opt-out mechanism for content being used in AI training

Suggested Actions:

  • Contact Shopify support directly to confirm if hidden settings exist or to escalate feedback
  • Provide negative feedback within the UI where available to potentially improve future suggestions

Related Issue:
Another user reports similar problems with a returns product being incorrectly recommended as “related” due to collection requirements for their shipping rules app.

The discussion remains unresolved, with community members confirming the lack of built-in solutions and recommending direct contact with Shopify support.

I work at a nursery and I’m the main point person for regular website maintenance, and for the past few weeks I’ve been putting up with these stupid purple text pop-ups trying to get me to add meta-fields and re-categorize my products, but all of the AI suggestions are wrong and unhelpful. They’re giving suggestions for the wrong product colors, the wrong scientific classifications, and unhelpful suggestions of where the products should be planted.

From a cursory search, it seems like there is no way to turn off the suggestions, and most likely (by my assumption) no way to opt out of my writing being used to further train these stupid LLMs from giving pointless recommendations to other people in future. Am I wrong? Do I have the ability to opt out of both? And if not, I really think that option should be given to Shopify platform users.

Unfortunately, Shopify currently doesn’t provide a direct option to disable AI-generated recommendations in the admin interface. While some suggestions can be dismissed individually, there’s no global setting to turn them off completely.

As for opting out of AI training, Shopify’s terms don’t specify a way to exclude your content from being used for model improvements. If this is a major concern, reaching out to Shopify support might be the best route, they can confirm if there’s a hidden setting or escalate feedback.

Also, if the suggestions are completely off-target, providing negative feedback within the UI (where available) might help refine them over time.

Hy masonUCHN,

That sounds really frustrating, especially when the AI suggestions are completely off. I haven’t seen a way to disable them either, but it would definitely make sense for Shopify to offer an opt-out. Have you tried reaching out to Shopify support about it? Maybe others here have found a workaround.

This would be useful for us because we have Redo free returns which is a product in our store. The problem is it gets recommended as “related” because I have to have it in a collection with other products in order for our shipping rules app to correctly display shipping rules at checkout. Otherwise I’d just not put it in any of our collections.
