Rename Collection Lists Titles Without Changing Collection Page URL/Title

Hi,

Because I have collections sorted between WOMEN/MEN I have named Mens/Womens Shop All page collections Mens Shop All, or Womens Shop All. Because I sorted this way I have collection titles such as Mens Best Sellers, Womens New Arrivals ETC…

I would like to adjust the titles so that on the page it displays as simply.. MEN or WOMEN or BEST SELLERS or NEW ARRIVALS on each of their respective pages - without - the full page title..

Is there a way to do this?

Hello @goodera

Thank you for submitting your query to the Shopify community. I’d be happy to assist you. Could you please provide the store URL and password (if it’s password-protected) so I can review and get back to you with an update?

Hi @goodera ,

Here are some steps:

  1. Edit Collection Titles
Go to Shopify Admin → Products → Collections and rename the collection titles to “MEN,” “WOMEN,” or whatever you prefer.

  2. Use Navigation Menu
Go to Online Store → Navigation and rename the menu items to show shorter names like “MEN” or “WOMEN.”

  3. Check Theme Settings
Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize and check if your theme has options to hide or adjust collection titles.

  4. Add Descriptions
In each collection, use the description field to add simpler names. Some themes display descriptions instead of titles.

Thank you

In this instance because I have my collection segmented into mens or women simply renaming them doesn’t work. As Bestsellers wouldn’t be able to be identified as women or men separately. I am looking for a code based solution on the backend to address the collection-lists aspect of renaming them specifically.

Here’s what I did.### Step 1: Locate the Section Code1. Go to your Shopify Admin Dashboard.

  1. Navigate to Online Store > Themes.

  2. Click Actions > Edit Code for your active theme.

  3. Search for the file where the collection tab list is defined. This could be:

    • A section file (e.g., collection-tabs.liquid, featured-collection.liquid, or a custom section file).

    • A snippet file (e.g., section-header.liquid).

Step 2: Update the section_heading Variable

The section_heading variable is likely being set in the section settings or passed from the schema. You can either:

  • Edit the section settings in the theme editor (if the heading is customizable).

  • Hardcode the change in the Liquid code.

To adjust the collection tab list so that it displays “WOMEN” and “MEN” instead of the full collection titles (e.g., “Womens Shop All” and “Mens Shop All”), you need to modify the part of the code where the collection titles are rendered. Specifically, you need to update the {{ block.settings.collection.title }} and {{ ‘sections.featured_collection.shop_collection’ | t: collection: block.settings.collection.title }} placeholders to display the shortened text.

@goodera just to clarify you should be able rename the collections without changing the handles.

But that doesn’t quite fit with that your doing.

So this is an advanced theme customization as you need to remove that text in the liquid template as it renders.

Or do a band-aid on a headwound with javascript to strip the words from the DOM elements.

Yes, I was able to remove the womens and mens from appearing with some conditional coding on the backend of the css. Worked out great! Basically just needed to filter out the words essentially.
