Whittaker Mountaineering, an outdoor equipment retail and rental store, seeks a better Shopify-integrated rental system to replace their current EZRent (Wintersteiger’s EasyRent) setup. The clunky integration requires significant development work and complicates site updates.
Key Requirements:
Online and in-store reservations
High-volume capacity
Seamless Shopify Web and POS integration
Rental item analytics
Ability to sell rental items directly to renters
Suggested Solutions:
Book that App and Booqable emerged as potential alternatives
Custom app development mentioned as an option, though rental/scheduling isn’t Shopify’s core strength
Supercycle proposed as a native Shopify rental and resale solution
Current Status:
The store ultimately implemented EZRent’s iFrame integration—described as “lackluster” but requiring minimal development effort. They remain actively searching for better alternatives. A limitation noted: Booqable doesn’t sync inventory between rental catalogs and retail systems, problematic for businesses selling B-stock rental items across multiple channels.

Hi, we’re Whittaker Mountaineering and we run an outdoor equipment retail and rental store at the base of Mount Rainier.
Right now we use EZRent for our rental system, but it’s got a really clunky integration with Shopify that we had to spend considerable time building, and it’s made updating anything else on the site quite a hassle. We’re looking for a rental integration that can:
Take reservations both online and in-store
Handle a large number of reservations
Integrate easily with Shopify Web
Provide data on rental items
Be able to sell individual rental items to the renter
We currently use Shopify POS in store too. If anyone has ideas or suggestions, please let me know!
You will still probably need middleware for the specifics but that could help do the heavy lifting.
Otherwise you need to build a custom app(s) due to your listed feature requirements(web&POS) and the unlisted ones that would come with replacing your current software.
Or make a harder choice to accept that scheduling/rental systems are not a first class feature in shopify and you need to investigate alternatives.
Its definitely possible to do within the Shopify ecosystem, but you likely to encounter a number of edge-cases requiring custom code as this is not Shopify’s primary intended use-case IMO. I assume EZRent you using is https://ezo.io/ezrentout ?
That’s good info, thank you! I think Book that App and Booqable are the best options I’ve come across, neither is perfect but both seem better than what we’ve got going now.
I did not, we ended up going with EZRent’s iFrame integration which is
pretty lackluster but didn’t take much dev work to set up. We’re still on
the lookout for better options though!
Booqable doesn’t sync inventory and the catalogs are separate. This client publishes B-stock products from their ERP to Shopify and other marketplaces that are also available for rent, thus the sync is mandatory.
Hello! Just found this thread and would love to connect. We are currently using EZ rent and looking for a better option. How is the iFrame integration working for you? Is that still what you are using?
