Sudden mismatch between Shopify’s “sessions converted” metric and actual order count started on March 27 and continues, with conversions no longer aligning with orders.
Investigations and tests:
Cookie consent was removed temporarily; no change in reported conversions vs. orders.
Suggested to validate tracking using GA4 (Google Analytics 4) via BigQuery export to compare data sources; OP plans to try this.
OP contacted the website theme developer to check for theme-related causes.
Support responses and perspectives:
Shopify support repeatedly attributes the discrepancy to cookie consent and iOS-related tracking changes.
Another participant reports Shopify acknowledged a known error, but it remains unresolved.
Outcomes and status:
No fix identified; tracking remains inconsistent.
Root cause of the March 27 shift is still unknown; no timeline from Shopify for resolution.
Notes:
Attached screenshots of analytics appear central to illustrating the discrepancy.
“Sessions converted” is a Shopify analytics metric being compared directly to the actual number of orders.

Been having this issue where the number of sessions converted reported by Shopify is way off the number of actual orders. Never had this issue until the 27th of March and since then the number of sessions converted has never matched the number of orders again. Reached out to Shopify multiple times and they said its due to cookie consent but that shouldn’t cause such a major change from the 27th onwards.
Have you actually tried to remove the cookie consent (just test-wise) to see if that causes the issue?
We also get some reporting discrepancies between the sheets.
What worked for me (not in all cases though):
Using GA4 through a Big Query Export and seeing whether we get an actual difference → then investigate further
Hi - did you ever resolve this? We are having the same issue and Shopify says its a known error but it still hasnt been resolved and we are keen to get our tracking correct!
Hey, unfortunately not. We’ve had chats with multiple support reps and they all say the same thing (cookie consent, IOS, etc etc) which I know is not the issue. I have also recently reached out to the creator of our website theme to see if they can look into it as well. If you find any solution please let me know, it would help out a tonne.
