Reporting on free orders and the reasons why

As a business, we want to track the free orders we are processing and the reason why so we can properly group them into the appropriate accounting categories, as well as track and measure performance over time.

Currently we offer free orders for a number of reasons:

  • Lost shipment replacements

  • Quality issues from Manufacturer

  • Gifting for influencers

and so on.

Shopify doesn’t include metafields in their orders exports (how we are currently tracking these).

How is everyone else tracking this? Thank you!

Most people are using a third-party app to export metafields. Some of them are Report Toaster, Better Reports, Matrixify, etc.

We can sync with Order metafields and use them to filter sales reports. We can also create custom fields using product/variant/order metafields.
