Request for Bulk Editor & Duplicate Posts & Metafields for Blogs

Topic summary

A merchant is requesting three key improvements to Shopify’s blog functionality to reduce manual workload and errors:

Primary Requests:

  • Bulk Editor: Enable bulk editing of blog posts similar to products/collections, allowing mass updates to content, metafields, and metaobjects
  • Duplicate Posts: Add ability to clone blog posts with all associated data (metafields, images, dates) like the product duplication feature
  • Pinned Metafields: Display pinned metafields directly on the blog editor page rather than requiring a separate page

Additional Suggestion:
Consolidate all metafields/metaobjects into the Content sidebar for consistency.

Update:
Shopify has implemented pinned metafields in the blog editor. The merchant emphasizes these features already exist elsewhere in Shopify and should be standard functionality rather than requiring third-party apps (currently spending $1000/month on apps). They note blogs are valuable for SEO and driving traffic, warranting better native support.

Status: Partially resolved (pinned metafields added), bulk editor and post duplication still requested.

Hi Shopify Team,

I have a few requests to improve the usability of blogs. We’ve launched our this year and it’s been a fantastic marketing tool and has helped increase sales, but the lack of love for the blogs section from Shopify really increases the workload to make this successful. Here are my top 3 recommendations:

1. Bulk Editor

Please have a Bulk Editor for blogs, exactly the same as what you have for products, collections, customers, etc. Being able to copy and paste vital information, theming, metaobjects, metafields would save so much time and be much easier to troubleshoot when something isn’t working correctly.

2. Duplicate Posts

Please let us be able to duplicate a blog post would save a crapload of time, just like you can for products where you can update everything including metafields/metaobjects/time/date/post/images/etc. Having to open several pages to copy across data and metafields is very time consuming and prone to error, which brings me to:

3. Pinned Metafields on the blog page

Please have the blog page have the pinned metafields displayed and editable instead of on a separate page. Please have it like products/collections where you display the pinned metafields on the page and then the unpinned ones on the other page.

I have a bunch of other ideas on how to improve but these are my top 3 and potentially easiest as the features already exist in multiple places. Oh and in general can you move all metafields/metaobjects to the Content sidebar instead of some in there and others in settings.

Thank you!

This is great feedback! Thank you for sharing. I’m happy to pass these suggestions along to our developers for consideration in future updates. In the meantime, have you looked into any of the blog apps? Some of these might offer further customization and editing options. If you’re interested in using one of these and want recommendations from other store owners, you can post a new question on the Shopify Apps board.

Thank you so much for passing this along. I hope they do consider them and decide to implement them soon as they seem relatively basic and already exist by Shopify in other areas. I’m currently spending around $1000 on apps (on top of the shopify cost) each month which is excessive and causes issues when there are shopify/theme updates, so I’m hesitant to add more to the mix.

Shopify, I noticed on the latest round of updates you’ve now added the pinned blog metafields in the blog editor - YAY! Thank you.

But PLEASE please add in the bulk editor and the ability to duplicate of posts exactly like you have available for Products. This should be standard functionality WITHOUT another unnecessary app. We know you can do it! Come on Shopify, go forth and be awesome and share some love to your blogs. After all they are a great way to get SEO and bring people to our website.
