Hello, I don’t like the way the images are displayed in the product view. They are shown much too large. Is there a way to display them like in this example? I would be grateful for any help.

Yes, the easiest way to achieve something similar to the example would be to go to Online Store, Customize then from the drop down menu at the top of the page select Products, default product. Then select Product Information in the left hand panel, and over on the right you should see an option called Desktop layout, here you can select Thumbnail carousel.
