Revert one-page checkout back to 3-step checkout, and abandoned email flows for one-page checkout

Hello,

Since the recent change to the one page checkout we no longer receive abandoned carts, prior to this we were getting quite a few to be able to try and recover. I have tested this multiple times on different devices, including both mobile and desktop, but since you enter your contact details and payment details on the same page it is not registering the abandoned cart.

I really like the concept of the one page checkout but is there any way to still get abandoned carts this way? I have checked all the settings etc and everything is turned on for marketing automations.

Thanks,

Oli

It is so shocking. I was the biggest Shopify fan before. Literally telling everyone they should choose Shopify, but since the way this whole situation is going down, there is no way I am recommending it. It is leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

I have had to pull out ALL my tricks this month - sale, promos etc to get through. And the shocking result is that it took ALL of these tricks to do what I would normally do without any of it.

All I can say is thank God for my POS business this past month.

And still, no movement from Shopify on this. Still being gaslit. Still being told we imagining it.

What they cannot see is what I have had to do to get to my average conversion rate this month - everything short of dancing on a table.

Can any of your staff acknowledge what is being said here or let us know what’s happening please? It’s as if we’re talking to ourselves.

Shopify Dev & Support Teams,

Just some feedback for you regarding this roll-out. As small business owners, we take pride in having control of all aspects of our businesses. I think a big part of this pushback stems from Shopify taking action on our shops on our behalf. In the future, it may be better for everyone if Shopify Dev provides more flexibility, such as an on-off switch for a 12 month period. I know there may be some technical difficulties with supporting two checkout solutions, but it would allow us as business owners to decide on our own time when to flip that switch. Not only do we take pride in having control of the businesses we started from scratch, but each business is different. For some shops (like mine) early October was the worst time to make this change.

That’s all. I just wanted to get that point across. I hope this feedback will be received. For the record, I am a former software developer who worked on checkout systems for most of my career, so…believe me…I know you guys have some technical hurdles with supporting two flows. Good luck and I still hope for a future update for the non-Plus customers.

Well isn’t that fascinating that the shopify PLUS stores they FEATURE all use 3 page checkout… and yet they keep saying on this thread “oh I don’t see that your sales have fallen!” Guess what - they have! I don’t need to show you stats - I should be able to toggle the switch and go back…like the PLUS stores can (but opt not to)

Count me as signed on this petition - PLEASE before we all have a horrible holiday season - GIVE US THE OPTION to run our business as we please…

Wow, my thread with 4K+ views and 21 likes just got merged with this thread by Shopify that has way less views and engagement. Interesting.

55trexodore,

I just went to look at your thread and was directed here, I was wondering what happened.

That’s really just another crappy move by Shopify to pretend this problem doesn’t exist.

My conversion rates are way down too! It’s insane. We should be able to go back.

They have no intention of switching back “this is what we are going with moving forward” They could care less about those of us that aren’t PLUS ($2000 a month) subscribers.

I can’t believe the “bait and switch” of changing something so fundamental to our business that we have come to know, rely on, and plan around.

Yes, we have had an increase in customers complaining about not being able to complete their payments, the page continually refreshing or just a general “unable to checkout” since we have switched to One Page Checkout

Shopify is fkin terrible, terminated my store for no reason, Legal Shopify emailed me 10 days ago asking me for:

Proof of address - Utility bill (e.g. water, electricity, or gas bill from the past 3 months), lease agreement (dated) or property insurance (dated)

  • Proof of business association (i.e. business license, business registration documents (with company number) or business tax filing record).
  • Proof of inventory (i.e. dated supplier invoices, dated manufacturing agreements)
  • Social media links related to your business (if none, please explain how are you driving traffic to your store)

And after I’ve uploaded and answered all of that, they did NOT respond to me, in the meanwhile I’m getting s*it ton of Disputes because my customers can not go on my page (I can’t even get the domain back). Also have other assets, files, customer data stuck in there that I can NOT access.

Hello,

Same thing for me, since the change to one checkout page, my conversion rate dropped off 50%

We need the 3 page checkout back otherwise, we won’t survive.

Still no response from shopify except “Nope.” Asking us to submit evidence, stats, screenshots, et all is ridiculous. Let’s waste even more time proving to Shopify we aren’t making this up - when they can clearly see all our sales / conversions have tanked. Asking us to send screenshots to substantiate the drop off is like telling us to boil water…

What solutions do you have for us Shopify? Please respond to us.

So has anyone had an uplift in sales yet or is there still blood on the ground! We are still bleeding heavily - sales have never been worse and we are throwing everything we can at it. One page checkout seems to be a disaster for our store!

Have you seen any improvement?

Is shopify looking at any of these accounts? Sales have been dismal since the changeover. It feels like I should just pack up and go home!!

Have you seen your sales recover or do you think the one page checkout is still hurting you?

Hi Emma,

My sales are still terrible, it’s so so disheartening. Also, the lack of response from Shopify - who when I go to their home page are touting a $1 per month intro fee - so surely the reps are busy helping people change button colors, rather than help us with this crisis.

They have no intention of giving us the 3 page checkout. Just like the didn’t care less about removing our informative admin page in place of useless squiggles. We should have had a rollback option on that too. But at least I could deal with the inconvenience.

I would also like to know if any of the others here have seen any improvement on sales or completed checkouts.

We’ve been investigating every report about one-page checkout thoroughly and have not found any systemic issues. But we want you to be able to choose what’s best for your business. We are building an in-admin tool to let all merchants choose between one-page and three-page checkout. You can learn more about that decision here.
