Context: 13,500 registered customers (many inactive), about 1,000 orders in the busiest month, with most purchases happening in-store and many shoppers not in the program.
Feedback shared on Smile: reported to work well for small businesses on website and POS, with configurable earning and redemption. Free plan has limited orders; $49/month plan has unlimited orders. Critical limitation: it cannot restrict rewards to selected products, so product-level exclusions are not supported.
Note that Smile allows excluding certain customers, but not products.
No alternative apps were identified. Another participant asked if a solution was found; no answer was posted. Status: unresolved; key open need is a POS/online solution with product-level exclusion within budget.

We are willing to spend around $50 a month for an app but I can’t seem to find the right one for our store for the following reasons:
We have 13,500 registered customers, although many are inactive, in our busiest month, we have around 1000 orders. However, we are a small shop with many low value transactions and many of our customers are not on a loyalty programme. These numbers seem to push us into a higher cost per month for loyalty apps.
We need an app that can be used as easily in store on the POS as on line, as most of our customers shop in store.
We need an app in which we can exclude some products from being eligible for earning rewards. (We have some very low margin products on which we cannot offer rewards)
We need an app that is quite simple to install and manage as we are not able to code.
We are a small business and use Smile and it has worked pretty well for us in attracting customers both on our website and with our POS system. You can set your own earning and redemptions. We have been using the Free option but will switch to the $49 per month soon because we are getting a lot more orders every month (right now we have a limited number with the free option but it is unlimited orders with the $49 per month). The only thing I’m not sure about is if you can choose items to exclude.
Thank you. It’s good to hear your experience. Unfortunately Smile have told us that their App doesn’t allow us to include only selected products in the rewards. This doesn’t work for us so I will keep looking.
That’s a bummer. Maybe they will take your suggestion and make that change in the future. After all, we can exclude certain customers. Why not certain products?
