Ripped off by seller. How to complain about seller to shopify.

Topic summary

Multiple customers seek ways to complain about Shopify-hosted sellers after alleged non-delivery, broken order links, and unresponsive merchants, including stores that disappear post-purchase. One user shared screenshots and personal contact details claiming they were ripped off by an employee.

Suggested actions:

  • Use Shopify Support/Help Centre to file a complaint and submit details.
  • Leave a review/feedback on the seller’s store.
  • Report the store via Shopify’s report link provided by a staff member.
  • Contact your bank/payment provider to pursue a chargeback/refund.

Clarification from Shopify staff: Shopify is a platform providing tools to independent merchants and does not manage sellers’ orders, products, or shipping. If a seller is unresponsive, report the store and work with your payment provider for refunds.

Disagreement and concerns:

  • Several users say Shopify’s complaint process is difficult or unresponsive and allege inadequate vetting, with some calling the platform complicit.
  • Some advise persistent complaints and social media escalation; others say the report link/process “doesn’t work.”

Status: No confirmed resolution. The thread remains open with ongoing reports of fraud concerns and reliance on chargebacks for remedy.

Hello there.

How does one go about complaining about a seller.

Giving negative feedback, so on.

Hi @GilLamy

This is Kate from PageFly - Landing page builder, I’d like to suggest this idea:

  1. Use Shopify’s support center: You can use Shopify’s support center to file a complaint. To do this, log in to your Shopify account and navigate to the Support section. From there, you can submit a request detailing the issue you experienced with the seller.

  2. Leave a review or feedback: You can also leave a review or feedback for the seller on their Shopify store. This can help other customers make informed decisions about whether to purchase from this seller in the future.

Hello @GilLamy I think you could lodge a direct complaint to Shopify through the aid of the Help Centre.

How do I make a complaint about a company taking money from customers and not shipping the products. I used to work for a company doing this exact process and can 100% prove. Look at the date of orders and how many are not shipped and all

of the complaints through the site.

Who do I contact to alert the unscrupulous actions by this company?

Have you got any positive response mate? I have been scammed by a company named BEBINCE.

I have a problem with not receiving an order from a merchant on Shopify.

The links provided in the email confirmation do not work.

I cannot find the seller on the Shopify directory.

Emails to the seller go unanswered.

What do I do now?

They make it next to impossible and do not respond. Very unprofessional. The shop I ordered from disappeared there are no links to contact or share. The website is gone days after ordered. Shopify and shop app should handle this. They need to vet their shops. They do not assist at all. It is useless to use them and even worse to order from a shop they list. Makes them complicit in my mind. They are aware of rampant fraud on their sites but do nothing.

Ditto. Complain to Shopify and keep complaining. Post on social media until they improve the process. Meanwhile you have to reverse the charge with your credit card and that is a lot of trouble. You are also at risk of other fraudulent activity related to the theft of your info from

an alleged merchant (fraud) on an allegedly secure site. Ridiculous. They should be shut down this is poor practice at best and fraud at worst. For Shopify and shop app.

Hi, @Paridhi_pj !

Thanks for your post.

For some context, Shopify is an e-commerce platform that enables merchants to manage their online businesses. However, it’s important to note that Shopify does not conduct business on behalf of merchants.

This means that Shopify does not oversee any aspects of the merchant’s business, including orders, products, shipping, or day-to-day activities. Shopify provides the tools and infrastructure for merchants to run their businesses independently.

If the seller has become unresponsive, you can report the store at this link. I’d also encourage you to contact your bank or payment provider to discuss refund options and next steps.

I have same problem, and this doesn’t work

I feel like this is a garbage response. Shopify and Shop app needs to take a little bit more responsibility in consumer, merchant relations, and the protection of the consumer. Your merchants are reflection of Shopify, and shop. It seems like too often your consumers are being ripped off by the sellers. I for example was ripped off twice now within a month time. First time I ordered something, the merchant had a photo of an authentic Adidas jacket, what I received was a rip off copy of one. The merchant will not refund my money saying that the item was on sale so they don’t refund based on their policy. But what they’re selling is fake so that should not even freaking apply.

Second merchant I ordered from, I ordered 4 items and I only received 2. All the contact information is wrong, or their website doesn’t have a send button for messaging and I can’t get any kind of response back.

So Shopifys solutions is for their consumers to contact thier bank, to try to get a charge back? But these banks go by investigation, especially if you use a debit card, and a merchant can tell the bank anything, and then you don’t get your money back. Not to mention, many of their merchants are from China and that takes at least a month to get your item by that time, It’s too late to even report it to your bank. Shopify, and shop, needs to do better at this point, as a as a consumer, I’m done with both platforms, and will not be buying from them anymore.
