seems to be a problem with swatches… cant get image or color swatches to work on the products/home page. anyone know how to do to so?
Create all your variants of the product from product admin and then under options click on the bin to initialise category metafields, this will create your options.
And from the customizer under theme settings then swatches you can select to show swatches, by default i believe it should be on.

You see the add variant button around there starts a button not a bin but database icon to connect your category metafields as your options.
When you like create the variants for your colours this as I believe automatically creates colour metafields which you can connect by click on that icon.
May be try adding all your colour variants to the product, then look for it.
was just told Ritual theme is 3rd party and not shopify native and ther traditional way to get image or even basic colors swatches will not work like how you say at all. need to find a difefrent way that works with Ritual theme
Ritual is actually a free theme by Shopify and I believe if not sure that it is from amongst the latest updates, so this should work. May be try updating your theme to the latest version. Also try searching for YouTube for category metafields and displaying color/image swatches you will find tons of tutorials that do the same process.
If for any reason this still doesn’t work out, then it definitely can be custom coded. Please check it out, you can always reach out for help

To make color swatches work you need to use category-based metafields – here is the new standard for setting up color swatches. Themes from Theme store are rquired to support this.

You have to use those predefined metafields as custom metafields can not generate swatches.
But you can add custom colors with metaobjects.
And yes, Ritual is not a 3rd party theme.
