Sales tax charged correctly, but then refunded immediately

I’m filing out sales tax return with the state of Ohio for the second half of 2024. I notice that of the $15k in total sales to the state for this period, about 10k are showing under the nontaxable/exempt column. Strange— as far as i know, clothing is a taxable item in Ohio.

As I’ve investigated further, it seems that for the first week of august (of course, right when we had a major release, unfortunately) all order timelines look like this:

Basically, sales tax is collected, then automatically updated to 0. The collected tax is then not captured and refunded to the customer.

It looks like this affects all orders from Ohio, placed on 8/1 through 8/8. Orders placed on/after August 9 are collecting as they should. Our shop was essentially closed for the month of July, however sales in late June were collecting sales tax as expected and without issue. This affects all Ohio orders during this timeframe, regardless of products ordered.

Worth noting-- the other states where we have economic nexus collected sales tax correctly during this timeframe.

Any idea why this would have occurred? It looks like we’ll just have to pay the sales tax ourself since shopify refunded it all
