SCAM ALERT !!!

Topic summary

A phishing scam is targeting Shopify store owners via email from shopifysafeshopassistance@gmail.com, impersonating official Shopify communications.

The scam email claims:

  • The store has accessibility issues violating ADA and WCAG 2.1 guidelines
  • Businesses face fines up to $75,000 (first violation) or $150,000 (repeat offenses)
  • Uses urgency tactics about legal exposure and lost sales

Recommended protection:
Set up email filters to automatically delete and block messages where the sender name contains “shopify” but uses a @gmail.com address, as legitimate Shopify communications never come from Gmail accounts.

HERE IS THE EMAIL : Shopify shopifysafeshopassistance@gmail.com

Hi Store Admin,

We’ve reviewed your Shopify store and detected accessibility issues that could put your business at risk of non-compliance with web accessibility laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and WCAG 2.1 guidelines.

Why this matters:- Businesses have faced fines up to $75,000 for a first violation—and up to $150,000 for repeated offenses

  • Lawsuits over inaccessible websites are on the rise globally
  • More importantly, over 1 billion people rely on accessible digital experiences to shop online

If your store isn’t accessible, you’re not only missing sales—you may be opening yourself to serious legal exposure.

Thanks @sparky337 for another warning. I hope people will search for this post and come up with it.

Think by now if you have an option in your email client to make filters to create one like this:

If the sender’s name contains “shopify” and it is from @gmail.com, it should be automatically be deleted and blocked.
