Shopify store owners are receiving fraudulent compliance emails from Gmail accounts claiming their stores are out of compliance. The scam emails demand various actions:
Common scam tactics:
Requests to update API keys
Claims of outdated SSL certificates
Threats of store disconnection from Shopify servers
Demands to purchase premium themes or update DNS settings
Pressure to act within 48 hours
Redirection to Telegram chats for “help”
Key warning signs:
Emails originate from Gmail accounts (not official Shopify domains)
Requests for purchases to resolve technical issues
Use of confusing language and urgency tactics
Community consensus: These are confirmed scams. Official Shopify never uses Gmail to contact customers. Users report receiving up to 10 such emails daily. The recommended action is to mark as spam, block, delete, and ignore completely without taking any requested actions.

I have been receiving emails that my store is out of compliance. First they wanted me to update my API keys, which I did and I still receive emails that if I don’t comply that my store would be disconnected from the Shopify server. Now they say that my SSL certificate is outdated and in order to receive a compatible SSL certificate I can’t just update my free Dawn theme version, I would need to purchase a premium theme to get a license number, then I need to update my domain DSN settings and then I would be in compliance again. The emails I have been receiving are from a Gmail account.
Did anyone else receive emails like this? Is this a scam?
I just don’t understand what my SSL certificate that I get for connecting my domain to Shopify has to do with a premium theme.
btw I just want to let you know I’m a developer providing services but on average on a daily baes I receive around 10 emails back to back.
And believe me I mark each of them as spam.
Don’t take such emails seriously and simply mark them and delete them.
Note: Shopify officials never use gmail to connect with their customers.
they proceed to ask me to get help from a chat on telegram where they tried to get me to purchase different plans , luckily I realised it was a scam but they use a lot of words to make it seem confusing and urge you to complete it in 48 hours or your store will be restricted
Sounds like the emails that I received. I blocked them now. As soon as they wanted me to purchase something in order to fix the problem I suspected it was a scam, but I also didn’t want my store shut down. So I came here to ask. Most of those scam emails I notice right away, but this scam took me a while.
