Scam from pinfairs.com

I’m creating this entry just so if anyone Googles pinfairs, pinfairs.com or Pin Fairs, this would show up.

In the past when we receive a questionable (not 100% certain if its a scam) email, we’ll google them and sometimes find forum entries from other people that received the same email, noting its a scam. In this case for pinfairs.com, nothing showed up. Visited their website and at first glance it looked very legit, but upon further digging, its an incomplete site.

Scammers usually use free emails domains like gmail, hotmail, etc, but this guy actually spent money to buy a domain, which threw me off.

Received the below email from Daniel Hearns daniel.hearns@pinfairs.com

I’m writing because I recently placed an order on your webshop but never received a confirmation email.> > I saw the confirmation alert after placing the order, and the payment has been taken from my card, but there’s nothing in my email. I’m a bit anxious since I haven’t received any further information.> > Could you please investigate if my order went through and forward the confirmation email?> > Thanks for your quick response. Looking forward to hearing from you quickly.

I checked under Orders and Customers and didn’t find anything under that email or name. In the past, I’ve had customers whos cards where declined, but some Shopify bug would show them a screen as if the order went through. But I would still be able to locate them under Customers or pending orders. Unsure if this was a scam or not, I replied him that we have no record of any orders under that email. He responds with the below and this verbiage screams scam:

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to follow up on my previous email regarding the missing order confirmation letter for my recent purchase. Despite waiting for several days, I have yet to receive any confirmation of my order.> > To assist in resolving this issue, I have attached a copy of my bank statement to this email. It shows the payment made to your store on 18th of may.> > I kindly request that you verify this payment and provide me with the confirmation letter for my order as soon as possible. If there are any additional details or steps required from my side, please let me know at your earliest convenience.> > Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I look forward to your swift response.> > Best regards,> Daniel Hearns> > Shared with Google easy-exchange: https://sites.google.com/{redacted}

The next day, I received another email from that domain, this time from Maggie Simpson maggie.simpson@pinfairs.com with pretty much the same message.

Hope this helps someone out there.

Literally just had the EXACT same experience with the exact same email. The first email wasn’t screaming spam, though we do occasionally get spam emails inquiring about orders that don’t exist. I responded with a request for the order date and amount and received the exact same follow up email you did, word for word, with that exact same “bank statement” link. Knew then immediately that it was spam and looked up the website out of curiosity. I thought it looked sketch and none of the social media links lead anywhere so I knew the website was fake and then a quick google search of “pinfairs” led me here. Thanks for posting!

Oh wow, barely created this post 2hrs ago and google already picked it up! I’m glad you were able to benefit from my post. I had thought about the whole “mind your own business” and do nothing, but the fact that this scammer paid for a domain to make themselves look legit irked me.

I’m also getting some from cbryson@waxedpaperpress.com now, almost the same wording.

When I googled “waxedpaperpress”, found some social media profiles and a LinkedIn that dates back a few years, so I think the company is legit, but always the possibility that scammers hacked in and took over his email.

Yep, but there’s also an obit for someone of that name (cbryson) who seems
to relate to that business and was signed Rick Mitchell, the RETURN is
actually:
rick.mitchell@fitlivefactur.com

and like the other ones I have no record of a transaction, pending/failed
or otherwise, for either of these emails.

full text:
“” Hola,

I hope this email finds you doing well. I recently reviewed my account
statement and saw a transaction from your shop that I do not recognize. The
charge appears unknown to me, and I would value your support in clarifying
it.

Could you please give clarification regarding this charge? Any details you
can give would be greatly helpful.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this concern.

Kind,
Rick Mitchell “”

I am the CS manager for a company here in Arizona and we received the same email from “Daniel” and then a week later from “Maggie”.

We don’t use Shopify for our website, but its the same ordeal.

Scammers be scamming.

We should have a communal list of the names / email addresses being used in these scams that we can access to verify the validity of the ‘enquiry’..
