Scheduled payments/ reserve items/ pre-authorised payment

Hello, I think this is possible. I would like to implement a payment button positioned below the ‘apple pay/accelatered button’ that allows customers to ‘reserve item’.

This would allow them to checkout as normal, payment info, address etc and reserve that item without paying anything up front but being able to collect payment at a set date & time. Similar to a buy now pay later but not.

I believe the Nike SNKRs site has something simialr, almsot like registering interest and being auto charged at a certain if you were lucky enough to be chosen.

I am looking to create the ‘reserve tickets’ option so customers can commit to purchasing but not get charged untill the date of the draw/giveaway.

Is this possible in the current shopify infastructrue or with the use of apps? They are using Stripe at there gateway so maybe i can contact them if they allow this pre-authorised payment structure.

Thanks, any help would be appreciated. Dan

Hey @DASCPA, only just saw this additional info about your reserve ticket scenario. I’ve replied to your original post earlier.

Interesting use case for giveaways. Am I correct that you’re looking for something like this:

  1. Customers can reserve items via a $0 deposit (as a reservation).
  2. Customers pay nothing upfront, checks out as normal so you get their details.
  3. On a future fixed date, when you announce the giveaway winners, you’ll charge the winning customers the full deferred payment.
  4. Customers who didn’t win the draw/giveaway will have their orders cancelled.

My technical co-founder has helped a few Shopify Plus merchants implement the above (except it wasn’t a $0 deposit and it wasn’t a giveaway, but an actual product). I’ve simplified the steps above, but you get the gist.

This can be easily done via most Built-for-Shopify pre-order & deposit apps. I run an Aussie-founded one, Early Bird. The only thing to note would be Shopify only supports pre-orders & deposits via Shopify Payments & PayPal, no accelerated checkouts like Apple & Google Pay.

If you can share more context, more than happy to answer any deposit questions and personally guide your setup.

Thanks Jo! I’d love to share more of the idea with you and see if that’s something you could help implement? Would you be free for a phone call later today or tomorrow to discuss? Thanks Dan

Another great example of these reserve function is Booking.com you can purchase the hotel and then you are automatically charged at a set date?

@DASCPA Happy to jump on a phone call in a bit. Are you based in Australia as well? If not, we can do a Google Meet video call and I can also walk you through what a typical customer pre-order journey looks like (and the operations flow on your end)
