Well, that’s just it; isn’t it?
Here’s the deal. We can provide temporary solutions to fix minor things like this from time to time, yes. But the real solution needs to come from shopify because of how they generate their front end code. Like twitter, yahoo, facebook, etc. This makes it much more difficult to write anything on the front-end that doesn’t run the risk of breaking or needing constant updates. That’s why the real solution needs to come from them because the changes will be more permanent.
that said, they make terrible decisions that are more permanent all the time too haha!
here’s the script we run on tampermonkey that opens the search bar for us. it works! 
You can probably adapt it to greasemonkey or other front-end browser javascript runners that you want.
