Search & Discovery Filters - Just one Collection

Topic summary

A user implemented filters on their Shopify store but discovered they appear across all collections rather than being collection-specific.

Current Limitation:

  • Default Shopify filter systems pull from global product data, displaying identical filters on every collection page
  • No native way to assign different filters to individual collections

Proposed Solutions:

Third-party apps:

  • Apps like Boost, Product Filter & Search, Smart Product Filter, and Searchanise offer conditional filtering
  • Allow creation of custom filter groups assignable to specific collections
  • Searchanise specifically supports collections with 5,000+ items and filters by tag prefixes/metafields

Custom development:

  • User could code a custom solution but expressed reluctance about creating API calls

Outcome:
The user indicated they’ll likely delete their current app and avoid third-party solutions, preferring to explore custom coding despite the technical challenges involved.

I added a few filters but they show up in all Collections.

is there a way to pick and choose which filters are on what collections?

Hey! @bryan76 ,

The default filter system shows the same filters across all collections because it pulls from your product data globally, but if you want certain filters to appear only on specific collections, you’ll usually need a theme customization or an app that supports conditional filtering. Some advanced filter and search apps like Boost, Product Filter & Search, or Smart Product Filter let you create custom filter groups and assign them to individual collections so each collection can have its own relevant set of filters.

thanks. that stinks. I’ll delete the app

that really stinks. I don’t use third party apps. I will look to code it myself somehow but not sure I want to create api calls

thanks

Hi,

There’s a simple solution to your problem.

With Searchanise Search & Filter, you can easily set up filters on your collection pages and customize them based on what’s most relevant for each specific collection.

  • Works even for collections with 5,000+ items
  • Choose exactly which filters to show per collection
  • Filters by tag prefixes and filters by metafields are available

You can find the app in the profile description. Hope you find it helpful!

Best regards,

Searchanise
