Search & Discovery = Tag Limit?

Topic summary

Issue: In Shopify’s Search & Discovery app, the Tags filter only displays 137 tags and stops listing options after the letter “i.” Searching within the app also fails to find tags beginning with letters after “i.”

Context: The store sells US car parts with heavy reliance on filtering. About 27,000 products are tagged, with some products having up to 10 tags. Tags have also been grouped.

Discrepancy: On the storefront (frontend), all relevant tags appear as filters, indicating the data exists and renders correctly for customers. The limitation appears to be within the Search & Discovery app’s tag UI.

Evidence: A screenshot is attached showing the truncated tag list in the app.

Impact: Hinders complete filter configuration and management in the backend despite correct frontend behavior.

Status/Request: No resolution provided yet. The poster is asking whether this is a limit or bug and how to restore full tag visibility/search beyond “i.”

Hey there,

I am currently building a shopify shop for a customer of ours which is selling car parts for us cars. Therefore filtering is very imporant aspect. The customer tagged around 27.000 products. Sometimes one product has up to 10 Tags.

Everything works so far but in the Search & Discovery App when i select the TAGS filter it only shows me 137 Tags. We also grouped a lot of Tags

But for some reason when i scroll down it doesn’t show us any tag after the letter ‘i’

We also can’t find tags starting with a letter after ‘i’ when searching in search & discovery. In the frontend we can see als tags as filters.

Any idea on how to solve this?

Interesting.

Just FYI – In my test store I can see 470 tags when adding a filter:

Do you know what is the first not shown tag?
One possible option is that some characters in this tag are breaking the HTML code/app backend?

Also, I’d probably migrate from tags to metafields for a more structured approach, less errors when entering new values and immediate faceting, but YMMV…
