second product page for customizer

Topic summary

Goal: enable a second, dedicated experience for a product customizer even though a product can only have one template (desire to pass all product data and open via a button).

Key options proposed:

  • Popup/overlay customizer: Keeps the main product page intact for SEO (descriptions, reviews), can preload for faster perceived load. Good for speed and discoverability.
  • Separate page: More immersive, fewer distractions, but moves users away from the product page.

Tools suggested:

  • Kickflip: Supports both popup and separate-page integrations on Shopify; documentation and best-practice articles linked.
  • Easify Product Options (Shopify app): Avoids multiple templates by assigning per-product option sets. Adds a “Personalize” button that opens a popup customizer before add-to-cart. Screenshots demonstrate the customer flow and app settings (images are central to understanding configuration).

Context/terms:

  • “Template” = the product page layout in the theme.
  • “Customizer” = the interface for configuring/personalizing the product.

Status/outcome:

  • No final decision from the original poster. Viable paths are popup/overlay vs a separate page, with app-based implementations available. Discussion remains open.

Hello developers,

I am creating a product customizer.
Since a product can only have one template, I am currently faced with the question of how to integrate the second template with the customizer. I can of course work with a popup or an overlay, but I would prefer to have a separate customer page where all the product data is transferred. In other words, a second product template that can be accessed via a button.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hello @ManfredMuc ,

I think integrating your customizer in a popup that activates with a “Customize” button could really benefit your SEO. This setup allows you to include SEO-optimized product descriptions and other helpful information, like user reviews, without slowing things down—since the customizer can be preloaded, it’ll appear to load faster too.

That said, if you’re aiming for a more immersive experience where the customizer takes center stage without any distractions, opting for a separate page might be the way to go.

I’m not sure which platform you’re using to build your customizer, but if it’s Kickflip, you’re in luck. Both options should work seamlessly right out of the box. You can check out our documentation about that for more details or contact our support and we’ll help you out.

Additionally, here are a couple of articles on optimizing your custom product page and product customizer integration to your online store that might be useful.

Hope this helps!

Hi @ManfredMuc :raising_hands:

With the Easify Product Options app, you can do this without having to create multiple templates.

Our app allows you to assign individual option sets to each product, so each product can have different customization options without affecting the main product template.

Also, if you want a separate customization experience, you can set up a “Personalize” button that, when clicked, will open a pop-up window for customers to customize the product before adding it to cart.
