I currently manage an online store with over 1,000 products, so having an efficient filtering system is crucial for showcasing my products effectively. At the moment, I’m using the “Supply” theme, which offers a filter by Group tag function that greatly helps in organizing and presenting my products.
However, I’ve been experiencing speed issues with this theme and am considering switching to a free Shopify 2.0 theme. I prefer using free themes because Shopify usually optimizes them for speed and SEO, even if their appearance might not be as polished. I’ve been researching but haven’t found a free Shopify 2.0 theme that includes the filter by Group tag function. Can anyone confirm if this feature has been removed or replaced by another function in Shopify 2.0 themes?
Additionally, I’d appreciate any guidance on how to edit product tags in bulk, as manually editing tags for the numerous products in our store would be quite time-consuming.
@AP1219 - usually free themes do not have filtering by tag as it is advance coding , you will need to use search/filter app for this functionality if you want to use tag filtering
Yes, it still available in Shopify 2.0 Theme, you can find it by: Go to your theme store → Theme details → choose “View documentation” or “Learn more.” → Search for “filter by Group tag function” or “collection filtering options” in the documentation
You can edit product tags in bulk using Shopify’s bulk editing feature. Here are the steps:
Go to Product page → select the products you want to edit
Click the Edit products button
In the bulk editor, select Tags
Edit and save

Regarding my previous inquiry about bulk editing tags, I apologize for any confusion. What I meant was editing the same tag for multiple products simultaneously. For instance, I have more than 200 products tagged as “Size_Large” and I want to change them all to “Size_L”. If I were to do it manually, I would have to remove the old tag and add the new tag for each product one by one. Therefore, I was wondering if this is possible using the existing Shopify function or if I need to download a third-party app to perform this task.
Do you know of any third-party apps that can perform this function without negatively impacting the speed optimization of my website? I’m always worry of using apps that could potentially slow down my site.
