Just wondering why an email is bounced, when the customer is in a segment, has received emails in the past from a segment, and now is bouncing back. I have reached out the customer to confirm the email address as well as the inbox is not full. Would love to resolve this issue!
Hi there,
Great question about bounced emails! There are a few important things to know about why an email might bounce even when a customer has successfully received emails from you in the past.
Shopify only suppresses email addresses for two specific reasons:
- The email address is invalid (permanent bounce)
- The recipient has marked your emails as spam (which only affects marketing emails, not transactional emails like order confirmations)
All other bounce reasons (like a full mailbox) are temporary, and Shopify will attempt to reach the email address in future campaigns.
Some common reasons why an email might suddenly bounce include:
-
The recipient’s email server temporarily rejected the message
-
The recipient’s mailbox was full at that specific time
-
The email provider implemented new spam filtering rules
-
There was a temporary technical issue with the email delivery
Since you’ve already confirmed with the customer that their email address is correct and their inbox isn’t full, this might require a closer look at your specific account.
For personalized assistance with this issue, I’d recommend reaching out to Shopify Support directly. They can investigate the specific bounce reason for this customer’s email address and help you resolve the issue.
Hope this helps clarify things!
