In the first two years, I paid for a bit of SEO, and I did some amateur-hour, social-media promotion. However, since then, I haven’t done anything more to promote the site. It’s mostly served as a hobby shop for my own amusement, but I’m now curious to see what market potential may exist for this product line.
Question for you experienced, E-commerce folks: The possibilities for marketing and promotion seem infinite, but my time is limited, so I need to be efficient. That being the case, how would you proceed if you were in my shoes?
All thoughts or suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance for your time.
Love your shop, the style, and the sense of humor. I feel that with the right marketing strategy, your shop does have a lot of potential to grow.
I assume you already have some converting customers. The first step I would do is ask your customers! (Most effective for increasing conversion) With a post-purchase survey, ask them how they found out about your shop. You can easily do so with a post-purchase survey app on Shopify, and reward your customers with coupons/points to keep them coming back again. Once you find out your strongest marketing channel, focus more effort and money on that.
Influencer Collab. Since you have visually appealing products, it would be good to connect with micro-influencers (those who are into humor!), send them some of your pieces, and ask them to create some content for your social media as well as your Shopify store.
Adding a blog. Adding blog posts with jokes, comedian recommendations, or even stories of how one of your T-shirts sparked a debate! Create inviting content to draw the right audience into your store.
Video content for Youtube & Instagram. I see you have created some engaging animations for your shop. Using the same tool, maybe create some humor skits for social media and try to draw in the right audience. The content can be unrelated to your t-shirt sales, but always end your video with follow us on social or check out www.wryguys.com.
I understand your situation and eagerness to explore the market potential of your store. Since time is limited, here’s how I would proceed as an experienced e-commerce person in your shoes:
Know your ideal customer:
Before diving into adjustments, let’s define your ideal customer:
Consider their demographics like age, gender, location, and interests.
What are their pain points and needs?
Where do they hang out online and what information do they consume?
Understanding them helps us target our efforts effectively.
2. Analyze your current performance:
Now, let’s see how your store is performing:
Google Analytics and your platform’s built-in tools can reveal traffic levels, conversion rates, and average order value.
Organic search rankings and traffic sources in Google Search Console can also tell us if there’s existing demand.
Finally, examine your social media channels’ engagement and follower growth to see where your audience is most active.
3. Prioritize high-impact, low-effort marketing:
Here are some quick wins to boost your store:
Optimize product listings: Enhance titles, descriptions, and images with your ideal customer’s search terms in mind.
Focus on a relevant social platform: Choose the one where your audience thrives and engages consistently. Consider targeted ads if budget allows.
Start an email list: Offer incentives like discounts or new product updates to build your audience.
Create targeted content: Blog posts or social media content addressing your audience’s pain points, showcasing your products as solutions, can be powerful.
Collaborate with complementary brands or influencers: Cross-promotion can reach new audiences.
Bonus tips:
Leverage user-generated content (UGC) by encouraging reviews and photos.
Offer excellent customer service to build trust and loyalty.
Once you have a clearer understanding of your audience and product positioning, consider paid advertising platforms like Google Ads or Facebook Ads.
Your store has unique, high-quality products with potential! Focus on highlighting their craftsmanship and the story behind their creation. Consider crafting product videos and behind-the-scenes content to connect emotionally with your audience.
I hope these suggestions help you unlock your store’s market potential!
Hi, Garcia. Thanks so much for the considered suggestions. Yes, time is indeed the limiting factor.
Traffic is minimal today, since I’ve done nothing to promote the site since 2017. However, I do have a good sense of the target audience, and I’ll look into possible social-media platforms and website-SEO enhancements.
You’re very welcome! It’s great to hear that you have a good understanding of your target audience – that’s a crucial step in crafting effective marketing and SEO strategies.
I hope your Christmas season is full of good things. Merry Christmas!
We can see that there is no YouTube presence of your website. Only Facebook and Instagram is there. From reel marketing, you can gain traffic, but YouTube is equally important where different companies are running merchandise having humorous lines on their tees. So, our view is to have a YouTube presence and then partner with some influencer to promote your product. And for a recurring revenue, lines should be related to common man having issues like money, single and others.
