I am subscribed to the basic shopify plan which means I can only sell in one currency. Does it make any difference if I have a multiple currency app on my online store.

You should use the third party checkout solution SHOPIFY STRIPE CHECKOUT, that supports multi-currency and many payment methods via Stripe.
