I was surprised to discover that I couldn’t send a credit card payment link for an order that was created using a manual payment option. The “Collect payment” link does accept a credit card payment, but there’s no way to send the native “complete your purchase” email / link to the customer. Seems like a natural addition (and an unnatural omission), so I figured I’d suggest it and see if anyone knows a workaround for triggering that email?

As a Shopify Partner, this is happening because manual payment orders are locked from checkout recovery. Workaround is duplicating the order with a draft order set to credit card then send the invoice link.You can also switch payment terms to due on receipt which re enables the pay now email.

Shopify does not send the standard checkout email for manual orders because they are already marked as placed. To work around this, you can click Send invoice on the order page. This sends the customer an email with a link to enter their credit card details and complete the payment.
To automate this, use Shopify Flow to trigger a custom email with a payment link whenever a manual order is created. This saves time and ensures the customer receives the necessary link to pay by credit card immediately.
