Send email to subscribers

Topic summary

A Shopify store owner needed help configuring email automation to send messages to subscribers who sign up via their website footer form. Their existing automation workflow wasn’t triggering properly from the footer subscription.

The Issue:

  • Footer form collected email addresses but automation wasn’t sending follow-up emails
  • Workflow included a condition checking if customer “didn’t subscribe” which was blocking emails from being sent

Solution Provided:

  • Verify marketing emails are enabled in Settings → Notifications → Customer Marketing Emails
  • Confirm footer email sign-up block is properly linked to customer marketing list in theme settings
  • Disable double opt-in (not required in UK) under Settings → Notifications → Marketing
  • Fix automation logic by removing the blocking condition and simplifying the flow to: Trigger (customer subscribes) → Optional condition (email not already sent) → Action (send welcome email)

Resolution: The issue was resolved using Shopify’s native automation tools without requiring third-party apps.

Hi all,

My page nylish.co.uk has a section in the footer stating ‘Be the first to know about new collections and exclusive offers.’ input email address. Once you add your email address it states ‘Thank you for subscribing’.

I would like an email to be sent to those who are subscribed. I have created an automation already and the workflow is as follows: customer subscribed to email marketing> check if customer didn’t subscribe> send marketing email.

I don’t think it is configured to be triggered from the footer of the page. How do I do this?

(In the UK we don’t need double opt in and I have read that this is they way to configure- which I feel this may not be the case)

Please advise and help.

Thank you team,

Tats

Hi there,
You can try our app, it meets your requirements well with automation functionality.
It has similar functions to other email marketing apps but integrates more deeply with Shopify and is much easier to use.

Hi Tats :waving_hand:

Great question—and you’re on the right track! It sounds like your automation is close but just needs a slight adjustment.

:wrench: Here’s what you need to know:

When someone subscribes via the footer form on your Shopify theme, Shopify adds them as a “Customer” with the tag Accepts Marketing = true—but only if the theme and settings are configured properly.

Here’s what to check and do:1. Go to Settings → Notifications → Customer Marketing Emails

  • Ensure marketing emails are enabled.
  1. In your Shopify theme settings (Online Store → Themes → Customize):

    • Go to the footer section, select the email sign-up block, and confirm it’s linked to your customer marketing list.

    • Make sure “Enable double opt-in” is turned off under Settings → Notifications → Marketing (since you’re in the UK).

  2. Fix your automation logic: The condition:

“Check if customer didn’t subscribe”> Is likely preventing the email from being sent.

Instead, update your flow in Shopify Email (or Klaviyo) like this:

    • Trigger: Customer subscribes to email marketing

    • Condition (optional): Email not already sent, or customer tag is missing

    • Action: Send welcome/offer email

If you’re using an external email tool (like Klaviyo or Mailchimp), you’ll need to sync your Shopify customer list with their platform for the automation to trigger correctly.

Let me know how it goes—happy to help troubleshoot the workflow further if needed!

Thank you for this- it was the above, I only use Shopify for automations so this was very easy to understand. Thank you.
