Sending customers links to purchased files

Hey, I’m looking for a way to allow my customers to download digital files through a hyperlink.

Essentially, I’m selling digital files that can only be downloaded through a specific site.

I know the Digital Downloads app sends customers an email that allows them to download files you’ve uploaded to Shopify, but the files I’m selling can’t be downloaded through Shopify.

Ideally, I would like this to be how customers receive the file:

Customer purchases file from store > customer receives an email containing a link to the site > link opens to the website where the download file is.

Is there a way to automatically email links to customers that direct them to files?

Thanks~

I would like to know the same thing. I tried using a Marketing automation to find people who have purchased our product, but it only works for customers who have opted in to marketing emails.

It ends up failing when there are customers who have unsubscribed or never opted in. I end up having to manually send emails. If there was a non-marketing automation, that would be perfect.

Did you ever figure out a solution? I couldn’t figure this out either…

I have been trying to find a solution to the same scenario; Customer purchases file from store > customer receives an email containing a link to the site > link opens to the website where the download file is.

The only thing that I can think of is to create a PDF file with a live link to the place where they can find their digital purchase. That PDF file can be uploaded through the Digital Downloads app. Its not ideal … would love a better solution, if anyone has one!

I ended up using Klaviyo. The free version is enough for my purposes. The funny thing is that it’s EXACTLY like the Shopify automation tool, but Shopify doesn’t let you send it unless the purchaser subscribed to marketing, and Klaviyo does.

Oh great! Ill check that out! :folded_hands:

A possible solution could be a license key management app similar to digital downloads. A lot of them allow you to set your own and they track and send them as strings (because they are usually license keys), attached to products or other various conditions post order. You could find one that would allow you to input a url instead of a license key and assign it to products.

If you have multiple urls you could try something like this as your license key https://example.com||https://example2.com and then use liquid to split the string by “||” and provide the download urls.

I prefer less apps but something like this seems beneficial managing storage, security, delivery, and more all wrapped into one for your purpose.
