No application is required. It is enough to register tags for each product. And in the theme settings, enable the tag display function.

How do i make the tags appear in the collection description header though? this is not a filter questions, i have a filter that works fine. This is for SEO to link between collections within the website.

For example, on my website, to add tags, you need to go to the theme settings/select collections/ check the Show collection tags box.
According to your screenshot, I would say that these are ordinary tags (which do not strengthen your link weight of the page in any way). Tell me the URL of this site maybe I’m wrong.

my theme doesn’t have ‘collection tag’ options. The link above looks like it links through to other page url and not just changing the tag

on this site, the filter looks like this.
Tags also change your URL. For example namesite.com/collection/product1/tag1..tag2 ..
