SEO Google Search showing wrong website information

Topic summary

A Shopify store owner is experiencing an issue where Google search results display contact page information instead of the intended brand/collection details, despite updating meta tags for collections.

Key Problem:

  • Google shows repetitive contact/email information in search snippets rather than product or collection content
  • Meta tags have been updated but the issue persists

Suggested Solutions:

  • Meta tags & schema markup: Verify meta titles and descriptions are properly configured for product/collection pages; add structured data (Organization/Product schema) and test using Google’s Rich Results tool
  • Code-level investigation: Check the Liquid code in the collection template and theme.liquid file to ensure meta tags aren’t being overridden or improperly configured
  • Google Search Console: Submit/resubmit sitemap and check for indexing issues or duplicate content problems
  • Homepage settings: Update meta title and description through Shopify Admin → Online Store → Preferences

Current Status:
The issue remains unresolved. Multiple responders have offered to investigate the backend code directly, with some suggesting third-party SEO apps for optimization. The store owner has shared their website URL (afterhrsuk.com) for further diagnosis.

Hi @Afterhrsuk

You can try the following steps:

  • Update your meta titles and descriptions to focus on your brand or collections.
  • Add schema markup (e.g., Organization or Product) to guide Google. Test it here.
  • Use Google Search Console to submit your sitemap and check for issues.

@Afterhrsuk Hey, thanks for posting here.
can you please share the link to inspect it, thanks.

there you need to update the meta thing from the backend and then check the the meta-related code.

@Afterhrsuk
Hope everything is doing well,
The issue you’re facing, where Google is showing the contact information or repetitive email details in search results instead of the product or collection information, seems to be related to improper meta tags, schema markup, or content organization. Here’s a more targeted approach to resolve this:

1. Fixing Meta Tags for Product/Collection Pages

Make sure that the title and meta description tags for your pages are correctly set up, especially for product pages, and not for contact pages. It seems Google is picking up content from your contact page.

For example, for the product or collection page, the title and description should be:

For a product page:

Ensure these tags are set up for each page (especially product or collection pages) in the HTML.
2. Check for Duplicate or Similar Content.
3. Update Sitemap and Resubmit to Google Search Console.
Based on a thorough review, the analysis identifies several areas where improvements can be made to help optimize the website for better visibility and ranking in search engines. We’ve specifically focused on key issues like meta tags, schema markup, internal linking, canonicalization, and the proper structuring of content. After reviewing all these factors in depth, the conclusion is that these improvements will significantly enhance your website’s performance and ensure that the right pages are being prioritized by search engines.

Please feel free to reach out to me directly via email at any time.

Check the homepage of your website, then hold the cursor over the search tab at the top. The meta title of the homepage will appear, along with your website URL. If needed, you can also change and rearrange the title here. Thank You

search website in a google and check. The meta for home page.

Hello @Afterhrsuk

It’s Meta Title and Meta Description, which you should set up for your homepage.

  • Log in to your Shopify admin.
  • Go to Online StorePreferences.
  • Under Search engine listing preview, you’ll see fields for:
    • Title (Meta Title)
    • Description (Meta Description)

Hi @Afterhrsuk

I can share you another way to further check this issue, which is to see if the code of meta tags is modified on your store, as it affects the performance in Google directly. You can find out the code in theme.liquid file by accessing Online store-Themes-three dots near Customize button-Edit code. Then check the code I find out from the original version of the theme file if it looks similar or not. If not, it must be modified and will result in the chaos of the search results in Google.

Here attach the original code of meta tags below:

    {% if page_description %}

    {% endif %}
