Is it possible on a product page to split the color variants into two sections? We want to do “core colors” and “limited edition colors” and don’t want them to be all lumped in one. See example screenshot of another company.

Not a solution to your original question, just a note: if you need to put some Clearance colors on sale (not all product variants), you could use this app https://apps.shopify.com/eushopa-toolkit
To show colors split into 2 sections for customers, you’d have to hire a Shopify expert to do the theme customization for this. If you do this, also ask for you to be easily able to change selected colors by yourself.
