I’d love to see Shopify allow separate mobile push notification settings for online orders and in-store POS orders.
As a retailer with both a brick-and-mortar store and an online store, I want to receive instant push notifications whenever an online order comes in so I can fulfill it quickly. However, I don’t need my phone buzzing every time an in-store POS transaction is completed.
Right now, the notifications are bundled together. If I enable order notifications, I receive notifications for every POS sale throughout the day, which makes the feature unusable. The only alternative is to turn notifications off completely, which means I can easily miss new online orders that need attention.
It would be incredibly helpful if Shopify allowed merchants to choose which order types generate push notifications, such as:
- Online Store orders
- Shop App orders
- Draft orders
- POS orders
This would give merchants much more control over their workflow and ensure important online orders don’t get buried under dozens or hundreds of in-store sale notifications.
I imagine many retailers who operate both online and physical stores would find this a valuable quality-of-life improvement.
Hi,
@AlexandraEllis
Based on my experience as a Shopify Developer, I completely understand your request. For stores that operate both online and physical locations, receiving push notifications for every POS sale can quickly become overwhelming, making it easy to miss important online orders.
Unfortunately, Shopify currently doesn’t provide separate push notification settings for different order types. Order notifications are bundled together, so there’s no built-in way to receive notifications only for Online Store or Shop App orders while excluding POS orders.
For now, the best option is to submit this as a feature request through Shopify’s feedback channels, as it would be a valuable improvement for merchants managing both retail and e-commerce operations. I hope Shopify considers adding more granular notification controls in a future update.
Thanks!
Hi @AlexandraEllis
That’s a great suggestion. For merchants running both a physical store and an online store, having all order notifications grouped can create a lot of unnecessary noise.
Being able to configure push notifications by order source (Online Store, Shop App, POS, Draft Orders, etc) would make it much easier to stay on top of orders that require fulfillment while avoiding constant alerts for in-store transactions. I’d encourage you to submit this through Shopify’s feature request channels as well, since feedback like this helps the product team prioritize improvements. Hopefully, more merchants will add their support if they’re experiencing the same workflow challenge.
Hello there @AlexandraEllis
I agree this would be a useful enhancement, particularly for merchants who have both retail and ecomerce. A pragmatic workaround is to use Shopify Flow or a third party automation app to send notification for online orders via email, Slack or other channels, and still have the POS activity separated. It is useful to help reduce alert fatigue as we miss orders that need to be fulfilled, until such time as Shopify implements more granular notification controls.
