Issue: Attempting to transfer a domain from Google Domains to Shopify triggers a small “Server Error!” pop-up after entering the authorization (auth) code, then redirects back to Settings. User has tried multiple times; domain isn’t used elsewhere.
Guidance provided:
Domain transfers may be blocked by a 60‑day registrar restriction for newly purchased domains. Reference: Google Domains’ transfer guide (link provided).
If the domain is older than 60 days, ensure it’s unlocked in Registration settings, then retrieve and use the auth code to initiate the transfer.
For persistent issues, contact Google Domains Help (link provided).
Key terms:
Auth code: A transfer authorization code required by registrars to move a domain.
Unlocking a domain: Disabling the transfer lock so another registrar can accept the transfer.
Status: No resolution confirmed. Next steps depend on whether the domain is within the 60‑day window and properly unlocked. Discussion remains open; user hasn’t reported back.
i’ve tried this a few times now - importing a domain i own and have not used anywhere else from Google Domains
each time i import the authorization code it simply comes back with a small pop up “Server Error !” at the bottom of the page and then sends me back to the settings page
Thank you for reaching out and posting this question.
When transferring a domain to a different domain provider, there may be a restriction placed on domains purchased within the last 60 days. If you’d like to learn more about this process, then we’d recommend taking a look at this guide from Google Domains: Transfer from Google domains to another registrar. However, if the domain was purchased more than 60 days ago, then you’ll need to make sure that the domain is unlocked under the Registration settings and then you can get the auth code to initiate the transfer. If you need further support with transferring the domain, then you can always get in touch with Google Domains Help.
