Server Error when trying to buy a new/first domain

I have just recently built my shopify store and i wanted to buy a domain to make it more professional, however every time i try to buy the domain it says “server error” and nothing else. any help is appreciated.

Can you tell me where you are purchasing this domain? Can you also walk me through the steps you are taking to purchase your domain? Are you following these steps here?

In this situation I would recommend trying the local troubleshooting steps listed below. If this doesn’t resolve the issue I would also recommend speaking to our live support. While I’m not able to look into your account here over the community, if you contact our Support Advisors through this page here they would be able to look into your account and see if there is more information recorded about why the purchase won’t go through.

Local troubleshooting steps:

  • Ensure your device and browser are both up to date
  • Clear your cache and cookies. After this, completely restart the browser before attempting to purchase the domain again.
  • Try to make the purchase using another device or browser (you can also try an incognito or private browser)
  • It is also important to ensure that you do not have any firewalls or pop-up blockers enabled on the device.

Please let me know if you have any questions about any of this! I definitely want to make sure you are able to purchase a domain for your shop. I also wanted to ask how the rest of your shop set up is going? Are you almost ready to launch your shop?

I tried the same following steps, and I still have the same trouble.. I even tried to buy it from the application Shopify on my mobile and I keep getting the same message.. can you help me please?

Hi @destructivemind and @ebpSloth . Thank you for trying the troubleshooting steps I suggested. When you attempt the domain purchase are you seeing any other errors in addition to “server error”?

Sometimes “server error” can occur if there is an issue with the address in Settings > Store Details of your Shopify Admin. Often one or more spaces can be found in the Apartment, suite, etc. field, and they need to be deleted before a purchase will successfully go through.

If you’re still experiencing this issue after double checking that field you will want to reach out to our support team here. I’m not able to look into your account over the Shopify Community, but if you request support through the page I shared, a Support Advisor will be able to review, in more detail, why the domain purchase won’t go through.

Hi This is still an ongoing issue it seems, I have used shopify in the past and never had this issue, I have tried all solutions offered and still having the issue. Additionally I am having the 3rd party error issue also, which I have tried all solutions for. This is showing both on windows PC and Ipad.
