I run three shopify e-commerce sites, and one of them has stopped reporting sessions correctly. The sessions seemed to drop off around mid-January, while sales have remained consistent. The site is relatively new, so most of the traffic is paid so it’s pretty easy to spot that there is a problem.
To give you an idea, looking at weekly sessions the figures are in the 100s where as I am delivering paid traffic from google in the 1000s. Prior to mid January the sessions were reporting in the 1000s and seemed fine. I appreciate that a session is not the same as a visit and of course I know how my seasonality changes, but nevertheless shopify analytics figures are way, way off.
I’ve not had a lot of luck using ‘chat’ with shopify, so I thought I post on here in case anyone might have experienced something similar.
Any advice would be gratefully received…
could you please share your website URL so that I can inspect the configuration?
Hi Sam - thanks for replying. The site is educationaltoys.co.uk.
thanks for sharing. i can see you already configured the google anlaytics 4. can you please tell me did you set up server side tracking or conversion API to bypass any kind of ad blocker and ios 14 update? furthermore i can see a issue with facebook pixel
That’s interesting… up until a couple of days ago we used the ‘Fueled’ app to configure GA4. We have not set up our own server side tracking. To try and trouble shoot this issue I uninstalled Fueled on Tuesday, but the issue has so far continued. GA4 would be nice to have, but obviously no use to me if sessions data to start with is wrong.
Given the issue you can see with the facebook pixel, would you recommend that we remove that to see if that is the problem?

Shopify analytics sometimes stops working. One of my clients was getting sales but shopify analytics showed no sales.so I would recommend to setup alternative analytics. The most reliable and expert recommended way to set up your analytics via Google Tag Manager GTM. It’s a manual process that works seamlessly.
Accurate conversion tracking is crucial for understanding user behavior, measuring campaign effectiveness, and making informed decisions
When a user initially visits your site or opens your app, GA4 automatically records a session_start event. This event serves as the starting point for a session and generates a unique session ID (ga_session_id) for that session
The session ID is a timestamp indicating when the session began.
It acts as a unique identifier for each session.
To analyze different sessions outside of Google Analytics, consider joining the user_id or user_pseudo_id with the session_id to get a distinct identifier for each session
If you need further questions feel free to ask.
Thanks
