Pretty sure sessions number on home page includes bots. I’d like to request y’all filter them out. It’s not helpful in regards to knowing or tracking real potential customer visits.
Agree that one unqualified sessions number is hard to use. I’d keep both instead of simply removing bots: total sessions for load/security monitoring, and eligible human sessions for commercial decisions.
The funnel denominator should be human PDP viewers, then ATC → checkout → purchase by device and market. If the headline number changes because bot traffic spikes while the human funnel stays flat, the store experience did not suddenly get worse — the audience mix did.
Thanks for the responses folks,
I know I can drill deeper in Google A4, but I’m talking about Shopify sessions stat on homepage. If it’s not really true user visits, then it’s pointless to even show it. On a quick check daily overview, bots skew everything. I’ve been looking at the number for years, not knowing the bots were in it. Yesterday my sessions almost doubled so I started digging to find out where all of the new human traffic was coming from. Alas, bots.
Anyway, now that I know the number is not a “real” session indicator, I can ignore it.
Cheers!
