Our store is a food hub that helps local farms sell their products to our local government employees and local restaurants. We have 3 pickup locations. We do not ship anything. Shopify is collecting tax based on the users ship to / bill to address and it’s wrong. We need to ONLY collect taxes based on the rates for our main distribution location. How can we configure this?
Note - we can’t use the multi location method because that requires you to put inventory at each location. We only have inventory at our main location and then a user can select one of 3 pickup locations during checkout.

So, do you want to shopify to collect taxes based on your main location, you can adjust the settings as follows:
-
Set a Default Tax Location:
Go to Settings > Taxes and Duties in Shopify, and ensure your main distribution location is the primary tax nexus. This will make taxes calculate based on that location.
-
Disable Shipping Tax Calculation:
Disable all shipping tax calculation’s and ensure that no tax calculations are linked to customers’ shipping or billing addresses.
-
Override Tax Rates:
Use the Tax Overrides feature in Taxes and Duties to apply location-specific tax rules based solely on your main hub.
