So my base store is in India. I want to be able to sell my products to let’s say USA.
Here are the details-
I want all the product prices to be displayed in USD including the checkout page.
I am not able to use markets because it needs shopify payments and it isn’t supported in India.
What is the best solution given the limitations above. I been waiting for shopify payments feature to be available in India for the past few years and it looks like they are not going to resolve this anytime soon. Meanwhile I am losing business because I can’t set up the store to cater to US customers.
In this case you will not be able to show the checkout in USD unless the store currency itself is set to USD. This would also require that you have a bank account that supports deposits in USD currency. If the store currency is set to INR then you won’t be able to have the checkout currency set to the customer’s preference. As you mentioned, this is only available on Shopify Payments at this time.
I am from India as well. I changed my store currency to USD. It still wont show me the option to setup shopify payments. Is it because I am ‘located’ in India?
That would be correct. Shopify Payments has eligibility requirements. One of them being that you are located in a country currently supported by Shopify Payments. At this time, India is not supported country.
If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know.
This is ridiculous. So what exactly is the solution here? I am a business based out of India. We export all around the world. I just started working on my website. And I am in a similar dillema. How do I possibly cater to my US market? I sell predominantly on Amazon US, Etsy, eBay and Walmart. All for the US market. Hence I would like to have my own website where US customers can visit directly to purchase. And since I am in India and it is an Indian business, it obviously doesn’t make sense to have the default store currency in INR.
It is 2025, please tell me there is an alternate solution available for this? It seems absurd that I cannot set USD as the currency for my international market (I have named it as International within my account as that covers every single country outside of India).
I do have the relevant Import/Export documents, Bank account that accepts USD. PayPal and Payoneer too.
Dude, don’t sweat it, it’s not worth it. For this reason I had to shift to Wordpress and honestly, it’s WAY better than Shopify. Not only does it let you setup different prices for different countries in their OWN currency, it also doesn’t charge the 2% commision that Shopify charges. I would highly recommend going with wordpress/woocommerce. Never going back to Shopify after this.
