Setting the identifier exists for gtin products and custom products

We have recently added gtins to a lot of products and we also have custom products. I have tried several ways to update the ‘custom product / identifier exists’ check box in Shopify but they either don’t work, work intermittently or get overwritten later. Therefore I am trying to use the feed rules in the merchant centre.

So far I have added 'if gtin has a value set to yes’ but I want to add ‘if gtin has no value - set to no’ so the check box will be correct for either scenario - can anyone help please?

Were you able to solve this? There are quite a lot of threads on this topic here in the community

Yes thanks - here’s how I solved it.

Shopify > google channel > manage availability

Set all the custom product fields to ‘false’ -whether they were or not. It was possible to copy the data down 50 products at a time but this still took a while. This means that everything with a gtin bar code works.

(Google channel improvement - There is a tick box on each product but 3 values for this field ‘true’, ‘false’, and ‘not filled in’. If the not filled in option was removed this feature would be much more user friendly as tick boxes can’t have 3 values).

Then I used merchant centre feed rules to set the identifier exists to ‘no’ for products without gtins - ie the custom ones - screenshot below (ps to confuse things further - yes to custom product = no to identifier exists). This means that everything without a gtin bar code works too.

Hopefully this explanation will help the next person that is struggling with getting custom products to work!

Wow @splish

So did all custom products get a barcode in your case?

That will really help others! Thanks a bunch!
