Several pages are duplicated

Topic summary

Main issue: Newly created Shopify pages appeared identical because they all used the same default template, so editing one affected all.

Why: In Shopify, pages share a template by default. To make pages unique, create separate page templates and assign them to specific pages.

Original (earlier UI) steps:

  • Online Store > Themes > Customize > Pages > Default page > Create template.
  • Then Online Store > Pages > select a page > Online store section > choose the new template > Save.
  • Outcome: This solved the original poster’s problem.

Platform update (Aug 14, 2024) — current method:

  • Online Store > Themes > Customize.
  • Use the top-center dropdown (house icon on homepage view), select Pages.
  • Create a new page template from there, then Save.
  • Assign it via Online Store > Pages > open a page > choose the new template in the Online store section > Save.

Notes:

  • Screenshots illustrate where to find the dropdown and template options; helpful but not required to follow.

Status: Resolved with updated instructions; no outstanding questions reported.

Hi @Raven2531 ,

By default, all pages share the same template. You can totally create different templates for different pages and then assign your pages to a specific template with the page editor

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes > Customize

  2. Select Pages > Default Page from the page selector then click on Create template

  1. Edit the template then save it.

Next, you’ll need to assign pages to each template:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Pages

  2. Use the search filter to locate the page that you want to change, or click on the page from the list of existing pages.

  3. In the Online store section, use the dropdown menu to select a new theme template to apply to the selected page.

  4. Click Save.

I hope it helps.
