Shipping Boxes

How do I ensure that Shopify auto-selects the correct shipping box? Most of my products fit a standard C5 hardback envelope (classed as a regular letter by Royal Mail), but some of them require a bigger, protective envelope (either a large letter or a small parcel by Royal Mail).

For example, my greeting cards require a protective envelope - how do I make sure that it assigns the bigger envelope to the order? I changed it to be the protective envelope in the “shipping” section of the products, but my last order it came through as the regular C5 envelope. I’m just worried that Royal Mail will say I underpaid postage. The C5 envelope is the default package, but I thought setting individual products to the right envelope would fix it.

Thank you!

@Laurenpenpal That’s the right first step.

When buying the label, make sure that you also have the right label selected there. For single product orders, it should always match what you set on the Product page.

For multi-product orders it will go to your default package (Shipping & Delivery Settings > Packages).

The more labels you buy, the smarter the algorithm will become at recommending which package you want for multi-item orders.

What if the order contains 5 items, for example 4 greeting cards, and 1 sticker? That’s what my order was, and it selected the smaller package (instead of the larger package, which the 4 greeting cards were set to).

It didn’t give me the option for another label, but I think the 2 envelopes class as the same shipping (both within the “large letter” category on Royal Mail). The only difference is that the larger envelope is heavier.

It will pick the store’s default package which is likely to be the smaller package based on what you’re telling me.

If you go to Settings > Shipping & Delivery > Packages you can set your store default to be the larger package. This should help you on future orders!
