I have a shipping rate/zone issue I cannot figure out how to solve.

Currently I offer flat rate shipping ($5.00) on my website. (domestic). This works very well for me and my customers love it and they can also upgrade to a better service if they would like to pay more and choose that service.

My Problem:

I offer a product line that cannot be shipped outside the US and also cannot be shipped with any service other than Parcel Post. Therefore, I can’t have this product in that shipping profile.

When I make a separate profile for this product line it then charges the flat rate shipping ($5.00) on this line. If a customer buys an item from this line and another item outside of this line they get charged 2 shipping fees ($10.00). I have racked my brain on how to fix this. If I set this product line to free if a customer does not add an item from outside this collection they will then get free shipping.

I hope this makes sense… recap, I need to have a product that will only ship domestic, not be able to have upgraded shipping (like my other items) but be included in the same flat rate shipping as my other items.

I’m afraid this is a problem of combining shipping profiles & rates and without any app, which allows you to set up logical rules for shipping, I think there is no easy way out of it.

I have one idea, which isn’t ideal, I know. If it’s only one product line (don’t know how many products we are talking about) — How about increasing the price of the specific product line for an average shipping rate in US? You mentioned that the product isn’t eligible to be shipped outside of US, so the average price won’t be that difficult to calculate?

Then, you could create a new shipping profile for this product with free shipping.

Not ideal solution, but could be working without using and paying for one more app?

Thank you for the feedback. I might try an app. Hadn’t thought of that.

The biggest issue with this product is that it contains alcohol so it cannot ship any other method than Parcel Post and that is why it can’t be in the profile with other products. An app might do the trick.
